In the seventh episode of season 2, WWE Chronicle narrated the story of the monster among men, Braun Strowman, and the real person behind the character. The episode showcased her real life struggles with depression, and also a never-before-seen backstage relationship with Vince McMahon.
In a recent appearance on Chasing glory with Lilian García Podcast, Strowman talked about his mental health issues and how Vince McMahon helped him overcome them.
Braun Strowman on fighting depression
Braun Strowman revealed that early last year, he had a bad breakup. It was partly caused by being on the road at all times as a WWE Superstar. He also felt that he had no value in his workplace. Basically, he hit rock bottom in his personal life. All this happened at the same time that his uncle passed away.
“It was the culmination of the things that happened in my life. The worst was the beginning of last year. I went through a really bad breakup. My personal life was a mess and being a WWE Superstar, it’s really hard to balance life on the road and your personal life and that’s part of the reason the relationship didn’t work out. I got to a point where I felt like I wasn’t important at work, so I had no escape. My mind was all over the place and I was alone. “
He also recounted how he finally bought his dream house on a lake. But he could hardly enjoy living in it due to his condition. However, he called out to the media for blaming WWE and how the company was hiring Strowman.
He claimed that that was not the case at all. In fact, WWE was the only positive in his life, and it was his own mind that was affecting his profession, not the other way around. That was when he went to speak with Vince McMahon to broach the subject and clarify a few things.
Vince McMahon helped The Monster Among Men
Strowman shared that WWE CEO Vince McMahon had a candid conversation with him. It’s something Strowman will always be in debt for.
McMahon assured him that they needed him in WWE and that he was one of the reasons their shows were succeeding.
“I went in, talked to Vince and we sat down. I literally had a father-son conversation and he gave me this security and this sense of wealth that I thought I didn’t have. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time as you have a lot to do. It gave me even more the friendship I have with him. I will always be indebted to him for taking the time to calm me down and tell me that you will not come to work for no reason. You come to work because I need you here. I want you here. You are one of the reasons our program is successful. That’s what I needed to hear to calm me down. I realized that it is not as bad as I think. It helped me get out of that funk that I had in my personal life. “
Braun Strowman revealed that one of the main reasons he didn’t follow through with his suicidal thoughts was because he thought it would be selfish to do that to his family, friends, cousins, and most of all, his fans.
“I can’t do this to myself because what will this do to my parents, my cousins, my friends, my fans around the world who look up to me and lean on me?”
